I know there was a book that said I was a “cockatoo” for the card games played in dingy little smoke-filled back rooms, but that book was wrong!

My Dad was a doorman before me. He was well known and respected.

Our time was spent around the Theatre Royal, but also The Comedy Theatre, King’s Theatre and later Her Majesty’s Theatre. We also followed the circuit with JCW Productions.

My trade is as a Barman but since meeting my wife Jean we have invested in something Jean’s family have a long history with and that’s baking. We have a bakery.

After the war we bought into the family’s bakery in a small New South Wales town and have been doing ok.

Being in the bakery with Jean’s brothers and father allowed us to get away at any time, whenever it was required. (Other duties)

Jean originally went by her usual name of Dorothy but since we married she preferred to use Jean. Everyone in the country area where we live know her as Jean. She’s quite popular.

I should point out here that Jean has never been associated with the surname Robertson.
